Acknowledgement of Country

Manly is the home of the Guringai People.

"A Welcome to Country is a ceremony performed by Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people to welcome visitors to their traditional land." (Pascoe, 2011, p.15).

"At a meeting, a speech or a formal occasion a speaker can begin by offering an Acknowledgment of Country. This can be performed by a non-Indigenous person." (Pascoe, 2011, p.15).

It is advisable to contact the local land council (see local contacts page) regarding the wording of an Acknowledgement of Country.
